Construction vs. Event CleanUP—what’s the difference?
Recently we serviced an event that had a significant construction build. They transformed the interior of a shop utterly with new floors, new tile in the bathroom, newly crafted carpentry and a new coat of paint. The producer admitted during the process that she had never had an event with such a significant production build.
To this end, we were contracted for event cleaning, not construction cleaning.
Here are the key differences:
CONSTRUCTION CLEANUP which involves removing sawdust, paint splatters, sweeping up hardware and construction debris requires specific chemicals and tools. Wet-vacs, industrial-grade sponges, dust-control powders and PPE like construction-grade masks and booties are all essential not only for getting the space really clean but also for protecting the safety and health of the cleaning staff.
EVENT CLEANUP is focused on maintaining and already prepared space. Cleaning crews vacuum, wipe down and disinfect surfaces, remove trash, and upkeep the restrooms. It might also include breaking down boxes or setting up the space with tables and chairs and some decor.
When an event producer does a full build out including floor installation and construction—whether this occurs indoors or outdoors—this also involves higher labor costs. If you have a production build that involves nail guns, sawdust flying, and large amounts of toxic fumes from dust and paint, scheduling cleaning services once the construction is fully completed not only ensures efficiency and safety, but is also more cost-effective. Having cleaners work in an active construction zone is not only hazardous but also inefficient, as dust and debris will continue accumulating.
